Back up and running about 12-10pm. Time to email the media about the crappie system when it crashes. Yehh and back down again. We are testing (ET) today but if its not 100% up tomorrow I'm stopping testing until its fixed. This is driving me MAD. Testing is only a part of my business and other sides are suffering. Graham

Back on at 5-40, cripes we are all in the thick of it. After notification to the media they have put a watered down report to the local news, shame on them. More servers and a faster modem or broad band is now PRIORITY. As it is it can and will happen again and again. Seems as though the many Goverment IT programs are ALL falling apart around them. TIME FOR A CHANGE BEFORE IT IS TO LATE. Lobby your local MP.

I think the problem lies with the lack of training given for ET when we went computerised, nobodys really sure what to do, we've all just had a book chucked at us and told get on with it.
And as for the Siemens help desk................

what do you do if you registered a test on computer and got a vt40 with a test number, system then crashed during test unable to enter results do you then give a E.T ticket. As the system will then give you a different test number when entering catch up results what about the fisrt test number?

If the vehicle has been left with you then just wait till you can log in and finish it. If the customers waiting then issue an ET cert and scrub (abort) the first "test" when you can eventually login. Then just work on the basis that the ET test "IS THE TEST". Well thats how we have done it a Gawd help any VI who tries to say we got it wrong. Graham

As long as your cards clear then don't worry. They designed the system with so many flaws its no wonder its so difficult to do it right. No doubt we were never told how to do ET was cos either they didn't expect it to ever be needed <joke> or nobody had bothered to try it out properly.
I'v entered a couple of ET's into the system (when it was up) this afternoon. Is it my imagination or is it impossible to add time onto pass certs.

The longer the crappy system is down the harder each time as each day passes that the crappy system can be restored. This is why we were put on line in dribs and drabs in the first place i suspect.

As already mentioned, "same sh*t, different day" I found that when replacing et certificates, system will not add extra days and no facility to do so. I then had to issue replacement certificate and add extra days. Takes twice as long when you are trying to play catch up and already way behind on other work. Helpdesk is just useless. I got back on line today around 12.00 noon, but had details of a test yesterday on card so needed it cleared. Not a hope in hell getting through to the helpdesk. Eventually went through syncronise card and managed to wipe last vehicle from it, then entered all previous tests in catch up. Really well thought out system, pity they never designed it to actually work properly As already said, will be glad when it is the end of the week, other mechanic has been of sick all week, so have been on my own all week with work for 2 people, with a crappy computer system to deal with as well. Best thing that can happen is for a major crash in the central server that cannot be repaired, and hopefully vosa will take some action while some of us still have businesses. This is costing us money to sort there f***k ups, and we seem to be just left to grin and bear it. Wake up man, the system is sh*t and needs launched out of the workshop. Sooner rather than later Gord

I found that when replacing et certificates, system will not add extra days and no facility to do so. Thats what I found and thought I was doing something wrong.. I've come to the conclusion that the "design" of the system was from a winning nursery school team and its back end codeing was done by a couple of LOWER 6th form students as part of an AS level project. Actually, on a serious note the user interface is total crap. Somewhere deep in this forum is a post that I do part time web design. If I came up with a solution like Siemens have I would NEVER get paid, customers would laugh and walk away. Graham
