Only mentioned due to having a couple of cars through the years that have had reg plates made up for front or rear. I am sure many of us have had the wrong number put on the plate with a digit out and it is only us testers that get the flack for failing it.

Notice how the thread says "THESE" should not of failed Does the thread mean" these characters"? or Did both plates fail and he means "these plates" Still looks like insecure to me lol In relation to the OLD regulations the security is such that; (6.3.1b) The number plate is so insecure that it is likely to fall off So the plate can be insecure and pass I had a rear number plate on a 8 seater some time back and the way that plate was fitted probably most testers would not have given it a second thought, then just failed it? The plate was positioned such that the plate rested on the lower ledge of the rear skirt, which had a lip on it to prevent the plate moving rearwards, but the plate could be lifted vertically because only one secure bolt was fitted, and the opposite side of the plate just being left supported by its own weight. I had to ask myself was the plate fitted as close to horizonatlly as possible, and I had to say yes, then I asked myself even though the plate has one securing device missing, and yes I can pick the plate up vertically at one end, was the plate so insecure that it was likely to fall off? Well obviously it was not going to fall off because it had one securing device fitted, and the driver had been driving the vehicle with it like that since the last mot test, so did I make the right decision to pass and advise it? I thought so, and even if the above plate is bonded to the bumper and half of the plate bonding has failed, the plate to me would still be a pass and advise We I think have to try and think about what VOSA actually mean when they talk about minimum standards, if a plate was secured with two securing devices and held rigid, then that would be like new, so is not a minimum standard to be applied, if you see what I mean Remember just above scrap yard level of integrity to pass an mot test ;D We are suppose to put rubbish on the road, not in the scrap yard ;D Dave
