A VTS is not permitted to prevent any person from booking or having an mot test if that person chooses to book one. A VTS which refuses a customer a booking can have disciplinary action brought against them. Not a good idea?

A VTS is not permitted to prevent any person from booking or having an mot test if that person chooses to book one. A VTS which refuses a customer a booking can have disciplinary action brought against them. Not a good idea? True. You are obliged to test all vehicles presented to you for testing that are in your class and are fit for testing. Just because you don't get on with the presenter is no reason not to do the test. There is, however the refusal to test option of ' Test fee not paid up-front when requested' which can be of use for some awkward occasions... Back to the main thread: I remember reading somwhere about a professional welder who stuck a patch on with silicon to make it look like a weld bead. He even painted it with red oxide. The tester didn't like the sound it gave off & prised it off with the corrosion assesment tool. The presenter went a shade of red-oxide when he was given the patch back!

re to Admins comments - just an addon - you can also refuse to test if you deem it dangerous on overheating or if it will damage their car or your equiptment and also if it will not fit on your ramp/rollers (in some cases). make sure you do your precheckes for all access doors/bonnet/boot and fuel cap. You are obliged but only if there is no "Reason to Refuse to Test".
Retesting - make sure you thoroughly retest all affected components on retest as I have had to send it away for simular experiences. loose brake pipes/hoses after brake work, Welded patches on a structial component - Imagine a panel cross section like an inverted T patch goes underneath and covers a hole but what about the upright? - if you can see it - test it
Dont even trust some close friends/mates as favours can be quick jobs half done.
Your name - your license - your responsibility - your court case.

I think this thread is loosing the original idea with regards what was originally being said?
Originally the thread started with a tester saying that a customer would be sent away if he returned later, which a tester/AE/DC would not be permitted to do. Every motorist no matter who they are have full entitlement to present their vehicle to a test station to be tested.
Even if after presentation the tester genuinely finds a reason to refuse it, the customer can still present the vehicle and book in or get a test on demand.
