It's the hanging around, waiting for someone to let us know what is happening that is getting to me.
I've one test waiting to have a certificate issued. I've rescheduled one test for later in the week, but have another one due in at 4pm... don't think he'll be happy when I say I can't test his car because the MOT computer has fallen down.
I'll give the local VOSA office a ring now, to see if they have been authorised to initiate emergency testing...

Surprise, surprise! VOSA phone lines busy, too... Eventually got through. told to ring back in another half hour The message has changed on the Siemens help desk, too. They all know there is a fault, but waiting for someone to decide to initiate emergency testing. Does anyone know of the website that the emergency test code will be published on ? It says in the mot manual that it should be online somewhere, but doesn't give the address...

This is now just to much. We have settled down over time without to much problems but the crashes are not and will not be tollerated by us. First it is in my opinion that the system needs more servers. Second the stupid speed of the modem is a joke, we should all be on broadband. I shall vent my words tomorrow to the powers of "B"

Ah, happy days Eventually managed to register a partial retest at 3.00 today, then system refused to let me log back in to print certificate. After continually trying the helpdesk with same story about "to busy, try back later" I phoned my local office. Lady I spoke to was very sympathetic, and after speaking to her boss, he said if I had mot's waiting, to test them manually filling in the check sheet, testing the vehicles and issuing the necessary paperwork once the system recovered. Said there was nothing else I could do. Also asked about compensation for lost time and cancelled mot's due to having customers hanging around, and was given the name and address posted above. looks like I will be writing a letter in next couple of days. This system really is becoming a joke, and we are the people loosing time and money through seimens inability to build a reliable system or have an efficient emergency system in place. A help desk is no use if we cannot get through to it. We should be trusted to open emergency books if the system goes belly up without needing to get the ok from seimens, after all we cannot get the ok if we can't get through I have about a dozen fatal error codes for seimens tomorrow, if I manage to speak to a human being. Just a bit frustrating, but we are only the bottom of the food chain. Gordon

Pressing F4 will only do something when it is available as one of the options on the screen. And all it does is 'abort & return to main menu' !

The system's back on!
I found out by phoning the Siemens service desk & noticed the 'Issue with MOT Computerisation' message had been replaced with the standard welcome message.
The test I started at 2pm had the VT20 issued 4 hours later at 6pm - should put my average test time up a bit!

Argh!! finished a test passed it with a few prs, went to dial up to print a test and that was it. Totally useless Siemens b*stards they just leave you high and dry, I had 1 to retest and one waiting to print a certificate and one test waiting to do. I really hate this system it's a nightmare, I feel a change of job on the horizon

Did you all know that it is spineless VOSA that are responsible for "invoking" emergency testing and not Seimens (stains for short). I rang the helpdesk tonight at 7.40 and after waiting 20 minutes finally got to speak to someone (how can it still be busy at 7.40 pm !!!!!) In future, if and when the system fails again and we are unable to contact helpdesk/recieve emergency testing authorisation we will continue to test and when the system begins working we will be logging 5 minute tests ie we will enter vehicle details then log back in straight away and enter test results. Don't see why we should continue to lose money over a sh**e computer system. DaveH

Don't see why we should continue to lose money over a sh**e computer system. DaveH This is what I was told by local vosa guy today when I phoned them after no chance of getting through to helpdesk. He said I had to continue testing, and once system recovered to log all tests through system. Only problem I see with this is no-one accepting they told us this when the sh*t hits the fan and we get pulled up for 3 or 4 tests registered in a 20 minute period. Unless all testing stations went down this road, think they would have a hard time disciplining everybody ;D
