Today 31/11/05 was a repeat of last Fridays fiasco, the system was obviously overloaded and could not cope. testing ground to a halt again. Customers that were re booked from Friday were canceled again . No help given from our local vosa office and not able to get through to the help line. what is worse is that no contingency plan is available . We cannot operate the emergency testing procedure because siemens did not provide an emergency testing reference, and fall back cannot be used as no contact is available with with siemens service desk. Our local office could not instruct us to use manual old style certificates. we did manage to talk via mobile phone to a local VE who advised us to carry on testing ,record all information on the blue check sheets, and then log all the tests later in the day. I don't know how many other test stations had this problem but the service desk line was busy until 4 pm when eventually we were back on line again.

Might this have something to do with the latest system update that we all should have had downloaded last week ? MOT computerisation was scheduled to be down from 10pm Saturday till 6am Sunday (if I remember correctly from the system message I received). The update was then scheduled to be installed today.
(un)Fortunately I missed it. I had a well deserved day off today. I wonder what headaches await me tomorrow when I go back in?

To all those who have been unable to access MOT Computerisation, this is the message that I received today: There were system problems yesterday which resulted in some testers being unable to use the system. If you are currently unable to test using MOT Computerisation please call the service desk who will be able to assist you. If you are having difficulties getting through to the service desk you may continue with emergency testing. The ET reference number is *******. Please refer to section 10H of your VTS User Guide for instruction on how to carry out emergency testing. We apologise for any inconvenience these problems have caused you. |
What tickles me is how will you get this message if computerisation is out of action (It's like BT trying to phone you to let you know the phone lines are down, or Royal Mail sending a letter to say there won't be any post)

My AE informed me that he had a system message from Siemens. It was an apology and explaination for the 'hiccup' that occured. He said it mentioned something about experts from Germany being drafted in to solve the problem. It also said about the phone lines being jammed & unable to cope.
Did anyone else get this message ?

He said it mentioned something about experts from Germany being drafted in to solve the problem. It also said about the phone lines being jammed & unable to cope. Did anyone else get this message ? Here is the message in full for anyone who missed it... "We apologise to those testers who were affected by the problems which occured on 31st October.
These were caused by a general system upgrade to the underlying operating platform rather than being a problem with MOT Computerisation itself.
Specialist engineers have been deployed from Siemens parent company in Germany to ensure the fault is fixed and does not re-occur.
The problem led to some users being locked out and requiring assistance from the Service Desk. The Service Desk became overloaded by calls and an ET incident was initiated to enable those testers who were locked out from MOT Comp. to continue testing.
Despite the problem, over 69000 tests were carried out using MOT Comp. on 31st October, significantly exceeding our previous record.
Those testers who had to issue Emergency Testing certificates are reminded that catch up needs to be completed by end of 8th November in accordance with Sections 10.H4-8 of the VTS User Guide.
From the VOSA Service Delivery Team."

I predict another system fault on Monday 21st November. That's the day after the next upgrade is going to be performed.
