Testing ground to a halt today at our mot station due a system failure that blocked smart cards when a tester used the fast track or minor item re test facility. The help desk lines were overloaded and engaged for hours . Our local vosa office were unable to help as the cards needed to be re set by Siemens .No warnings or messages were sent to warn testers of the trap awaiting them. But don't worry about loss of trade and customer upset because after waiting for 45 Min's on the line at my expense the help desk operator said that my card may possibly be OK tomorrow, and if not I should phone them .along with the other 5,000 or so testers that have blocked cards i presume.

Thanks for the warning.
Wer you expecting emergency testing authorised, or were you anticipating testing in fallback ? (Would that work if lines are choked?)
Hope the system's back to normal tomorrow...

Fall back not possible as no phone contact available and vosa not sure what to do. I was told to carry out minor re tests as full tests but then found my smart card blocked with the message insufficient time taken on last test "call help line." and around the circle we go again. customers are now going to the mot station up the road that havent even got a vts device yet.No problem say vosa you can claim compensation for the lost tests, Thats ok we have lost a regular customer so can we claim for the future loss of income ? and I think i will give up my job AS AN NT to much hassle .Data collection is now the vosa priority and road safety obviously much less important

Its Offical in my book, going live is costing us money.Takes to long from start to finish. To many built in parimaters all at once. May sell up and build houses, or go on strike and become a fefugee, not a happy chap.

Guys, I really feel for you. we are not due to go live til November and I am starting to pray that VOSA will back track (like it has on soo many occasions) and call a halt til its all properly sorted.
They have tried to do too much at once and its a major cockup. I think we ALL knew it would be the day SIEMENS were given the contract.
I hope all of you having problems are flooding "Matters of Testing" with complaints as well as VOSA themselves. Try a letter to the local press, the nationals may pick it up. The PUBLIC need to know what they are in for.
Once I'm computerised and affected by something like this I will raize HELL and I am not afraid to stick my head over the parapet and give VOSA stick.
