VOSA are to test an Urgent Message system on 21st September.
It would be interesting to know what time each test station receives this message. Ideally, we should all receive it at the same time or, at most, within a 15 minute 'window'.
Please make a note of the time you receive the message and post it here to compare the results.
Remember to update your telephone contact details by 15th September - as per SN6/2006. See User Guide 10.O1

The interesting thing is when the comps go down, we are all busy trying to ring siemens while they are trying to ring us ?? I see this is well thought out why cant we just be trusted ? if it go's down then we should be able to get a to continue until an ET number is given whas the point sticking in a claim they havent paid the last one ?? it seems they have the thought " lets do nothing and everyone will go away" I shall have to get a solicitor to write ( more money more time ) where does it stop !!!! moan over

How exactly are we going to recieve this message ? Dave I am assuming it is going to be an automated telephone call. How long will it take to cycle through all 19000 test stations is what I am interested in discovering... Once we have received the message, we are to acknowledge receipt by following the instructions in the message.

What does the message say? Not yet received one 12:43 Graham It starts off with a l-o-n-g pause - as if no one is there. Just before you hang up, a recorded announcement says: 'This is a VOSA test message. Do not acknowledge this message, do not ring VOSA, do not ring Siemens service desk' (or words to that effect) 'Press 1 to hear the message again' Ideally, we should all get such a message within 15 minutes, but today is the test to see if the system would work...

Interesting, I have Caller ID enabled and did receive an "International call" earlier where no one was there and I just hung up. Perhaps the calls are coming from a call center in India or such.
I thought SN6 said there was to be a procedure to acknowledge the call.....

oh we got it allright about 11:40am for all the use it was. Boss got it and by time he passed phone to me message had finished. He caught most of it and said we'd to do nothing and I couldn't understand that because thats not what the special notice had us believe.

We didn't get the message, nor did two other MOT stations where I know the staff.

We didn't get the message, nor did two other MOT stations where I know the staff. SN 6-2006 states: Item 1 Trial of a New Process for Urgent MessagesVOSA recognises the need to get messages quickly to all testing stations on certain occasions, such as Emergency Testing. We have had preliminary discussions with a company that provides such a service and we need to test the process, before committing to it. So VOSA will run a test message on Thursday, 21 September. The message will be sent to the contact phone number that is shown on your site details on MOT Computerisation. It is important that you check this number by Friday, 15 September and amend it if necessary. AEs and SMs can do this by using the screen “Update VTS Details” (see User Guide 10.O1). The message will inform you of the procedure to acknowledge that it has been received. It is important that you acknowledge the message so we can correctly evaluate the effectiveness of the process. It would be assumed that all testing stations would have been sent the message to confirm how effective it is. It would also be wise to have some form of acknowledgment system where VTS's can confirm the message had been received. Perhaps we'll have one of those 'red (acknowledge) envelopes' on the vts computer tomorrow... I had my phone call around 11:45.

We didn't get the message, nor did two other MOT stations where I know the staff. No doubt a large % of stations never heard the message but I bet it will be claimed as a huge success. From how Admin described the message I think I received it but I never HEARD it cos I put the phone down too quickly. Presumably I will be logged as having got it. Why don't they ask how we would like it sending - phone, fax, email, text message etc. Graham

Just doesn't add up, does it? The VTS device message yesterday seems to indicate that a large number of test stations received the message - although how that can be confirmed just by sending out a recorded message that had been 'answered' is hard to understand. How many calls ended up going to 'deaf ears' that failed to relay the message to MOT staff ? How many MOT people answered the call, but hung up before the message started ?

Would have been better sent by text to a mobile number or something. If we'd both been out towing in a car and bosses wife had got the message chances are she'd have hung up the phone as well and we'd know nothing.

I was expecting the call, but after receiving several sales calls already from overseas (long delay before anyone speaks), I was frustrated with time wasting calls & hung up. It was only when I realised what time it was & after I caught the first couple of words of the message the penny dropped that it was the VOSA message. I have trained all my staff to put the phone down if they suspect that the call is from anyone selling stuff. The overseas calls are identifiable by a long pause before you here someone who can barely speak English (just like the VOSA call) ;D Regards
