While testing a vehicle at my VTS, another tester pointed out to me a mistake on the VSI database.
He was testing a Nissan Vanette with McPherson strut suspension but the VSI told him to jack the vehicle under the front arms because the VSI states that the vehicle has a torsion bar suspension
I checked the VSI selection, and the tester had chosen the correct model. In fact ALL the Nissan Vanette's were shown to have torsion bar suspension in the VSI!
While the NT tested the vehicle - correctly jacking the front suspension on the chassis & allowing the wheels to hang, I sent a Message via MOT computerisation to (a) 'The Service Desk' and (b) 'Testing Technical Queries'.
The next day, a young lady phoned from Siemens Service Desk to say the fault was nothing to do with them, I should have phoned M.C.C. (nope, not heard of them either) and gave me their number.
They didn't seem to want to know at first - the guy who deals with VSI errors was on holidays. I left my number & an abrupt voice from M.C.C. at Bristol phoned back, snapping out some questions that made me think it was MY fault the VSI was wrong!
I wondered why I bothered phoning in the VSI error in the first place.
I won't bother next time.
Two days later, a Computerisation message came through from the 'Testing Technical Queries' desk ( (b) in the 4th paragraph above), telling me that the VSI issue is nothing to do with them - I should report the fault to Siemens Service Desk!!!
I definately won't bother next time.
