Had a car at our VTS today for its first MOT. The car's date of registration was 28 April 2003. As today was 28 March, I told the presenter that he should have the vehicle tested from tomorrow (29th March) onwards if he wanted to make use of the extended expiry date rule (aka 13 month MOT). As he had taken time off work to have the MOT done today, he said not to worry about losing the month and he would accept a 12 month MOT certificate. The vehicle was tested & passed. The computer issued the VT20 with issue date of 28 MARCH 2006, expiry 28 APRIL 2007 Doesn't sound right to me - Seems like it has had a 13 month plus 1 day on the certificate !! I would have expected the expiry date to have shown 27 MARCH 2007. Contacted VOSA local office, their initial response is that it is not right, and will get back to me tomorrow. I have noticed in the past that vehicles presented early for test give a message when being registered on the VTS computer to that effect. This one didn't.

The lady at my local VOSA office contacted me the next morning. She said to release the vehicle with the VT20 as issued (the vehicle had already left ). She agreed that the system isn't handling the extended date correctly, and will forward the fault to Siemens for their attention. She did say that she was half expecting to be told to amend the VT20 to show the issue date of 28 MARCH 2006 & expiry of 27 MARCH 2007.

Had the opposite today (31st March) old ticket runs out 30th April 2006.
Would not let us put 30th April 2007 as the expiry date. Kept coming back telling us it must be a minimum of 12 and maximum of 13 months between date of issue and date of expiry.
Tried a couple of times then stuck in the 29th April 2007 and it liked that.
