A tester returned to the VTS device to enter the results of the test, only to find that his SmartCard was missing from the card holder that he keeps in his pocket!
After much searching & head scratching, the SM issued the Site Spare. The procedure in chapter 10.K3 was followed to the letter. The card was synchronised.
The NT then tried to 'Enter Test Results by NT', but the system refused to allow him to do it. The error message came up "The test [number] on vehicle [reg] is not available on this smart card. Please record results in Fallback, or use 'Enter test results by Administration"
As we hadn't been authorised to use Fallback, and we needed to issue a VT30, neither of the options seemed appropriate. So a phone call was made to the helpdesk.
No real explanation was given as to the cause of the problem, but the NT ended up having the test terminated at Siemens helpdesk, and was told to re-register the test again from the beginning !
In the meantime, the NTs Smart Card was found under the desk.

The moral of this story is, a) Don't lose your smart card. b) If you mislay your smart card, look for it properly c) Don't lose your smart card.
Did I forget to mention, don't lose your smart card.

Strange one, that.
Even if you hadn't misplaced your smartcard, if it had been damaged or was unreadable by the VTS device, then having the spare issued & synchronised should have transferred the details of the test in progress.
