A nice little earner taken away from us - I wonder how log it will be until VOSA get the same idea.

So can a Class4 (only) station issue duplicates for other class vehicles?

So can a Class4 (only) station issue duplicates for other class vehicles? Graham I assume so. A certificate issued inder MOT Computerisation for all classes of vehicle can be issued as a duplicate from any other VTS Device.

Is it that: they are offering 'Replacement' certificates for £10 ? (and state that VOSA have set this price!) wheras they should only sell 'Duplicate' certificates. And, can a 'Replacement' certificate be issued by another VTS ?

And, can a 'Replacement' certificate be issued by another VTS ? They have got their terminology wrong and you are right that only the original VTS can issue a replacement, but there is another mistake... -- R

Well unless the goal posts have moved recently NO they cant issue a replacement.
Are they not meaning, replacement of OLD STYLE to NEW STYLE though perhaps? Never the less it's worded wrongly I think.

They also show the 'OLD STYLE' certificate to pinpoint where the Serial Number can be found. motbypost.co.uk/duplicatemot.htmlDuplicate pre-computerisation certificates can only be issued by the original VTS (or the VOSA office if the VTS has ceased testing).

motdave has got it. They are asking for the old style serial number for computerisation duplicates.
-- Roger
PS don't forget that if you are issuing a computerisation duplicate for a customer that was originally tested at your VTS then you only need enter the VRM.

There are a growing number of internet-based sources for Duplicate MOT Certificates: Duplicate copies of computerised MOT Certificates can also be issued at any computerised MOT Test Station.

There are a growing number of internet-based sources for Duplicate MOT Certificates. It will be interesting to see who's the first to do a "buy one get one free" (just hit the reprint button). Which is why I believe these web based suppliers are wasting their time (checking validity, corresponding with customers, posting certificates, and all the other hassles). These guys even have an extra step involved asking to check availability... www.duplicatemot.co.uk/check.htmWhy not send the punters to www.motinfo.gov.uk and let them check themselves. I wonder how many sales they are doing? Any ideas? VOSA need to put some suitable blurb on their site to say that any VTS can issue a replacement because I'm sure people are not aware of what is possible and how easy it is to do. -- R

Doesn't VOSA Reg's state that you must check that the person applying for the duplicate is actually entitled to do so? You can't do that over the phone or just by asking for the V5 so you would not be legally allowed to issue a Duplicate!! hmmm..

You can't do that over the phone or just by asking for the V5 so you would not be legally allowed to issue a Duplicate!! hmmm.. Persons requesting a duplicate certificate do need to prove their entitlement to obtain the duplicate. The required check to prove entitlement is one of either the Test Number, or the V5C Reference Number plus VRM (Registration Mark). For more details, see Link: www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/tgs0h000105.htm
