Thank God I can let other NT's etc. know about this one: I failed a 2008 Fiat campervan (2010kg) 20303miles, rejected as the front brakes had a 37% imbalance, the chap said he was 72 years old but would take it away and have a look at the brakes and fix them himself as he was an engineer/fitter in his working life. This was yesterday, today he brought it back and the other NT retested it to find it now had a 61% imbalance at the front.
Advised the chappy to call back later as we needed to check out his 'repair'. HE HAD GREASED THE BRAKE PADS on the nearside! Actual grease on the faces.
Driving it back to the VTS he could have killed himself or someone else.
Incredible. Of course it's easy to be a mechanic, it's the thicko's choice of trade - WRONG. I recently voted on a website that I didn't think that mechanics should be licensed, now I'm not sure.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
