By now most of you will know that the above check is to be discontinued. Well IMO here's a good reason to carry on and it is with regard to the Volvo 850 estate/V70 estate (at least early version V70s). The only way I know to check for a completely seperated rear damper top bush is in the following way. (Note: The bush is not the common fail safe bobbin-type bush with the bolt through a sleeved centre and it is not readily visible) With the tailgate open, observe the rear (carpeted) floor where it meets with the base of the rear seats back rests. Bounce-check in the usual way and observe the floor which will rise and fall in keeping. If this happens you are guaranteed a failed top bush! Cheers!

Based on the method of inspection stated in the thread;failing the rear damper top bush will not be justified never mind guaranteed. The carpet being in the way will contribute towards this,unless x-ray vision is available LOL; its a different scenario then.
