I failed an L reg Mondeo last week for several things, one of them was a rear anti-roll bar bush which I failed for "Deterioration of a rubber bush resulting in excessive movement". Basically the bush was so worn, the anti-roll bar was like a pr*ck in a top hat. The car came back with "all the repairs done", so I did a full retest, and had a laugh at the repair for the bush. Whoever repaired it forgot one important detail, it helps if you fit the end of the clamp in the recess and over the bush before you do the bolt up.

That is a very worrying picture!!!! After I failed it yet again we were asked to fix it, the customer was going to visit the place he had it 'repaired' at, to get some of his money back. It took me two minutes to get it looking like this........ and three minutes to get a drink from the customer, for doing it in my lunch break.

I found this nice one this afternoon. The MOT on this 1999 Mondeo runs out next week, the customer bought and collected the car the day after it was tested and it's not had any repairs or service work done in that period. The garage he bought it from (same place as where the MOT was done) told him when he bought it that they'd just fitted a new clutch. The front subframe rear bush has so much play the whole subframe shook when I used the shaker plates. The remains of original bolt is still in the chassis floating around where it had sheared off and the captive nut in the chassis had broken off. I chased it around, you can see it in the photo poking through in the hole where you realign the subframe. A hole has been made in the chassis so they could get a new bolt down through the chassis into the subframe, shame it was about an inch too short, you can see from the photo the bolt only goes into the nylock nut by about half, not even into the locking part. The hole they made had a rubber blanking grommet placed in it as a cover up, that was nice of them. As you can see the whole bodge has been covered in black rubber type silicone/mastic probably Tiger seal. As well as this the two long bolts that hold the steering rack into the subframe weren't tight (later inspection finds that they had been cross threaded) so the rack was insecure and moving around on rocking the steering. Needless to say the owner was shocked, and very annoyed that he had no comeback on the MOT tester and station via VOSA as it was so long ago. I will make these photos available to him if he does decide to take issue with the garage via Trading Standards, but I told him not to hold his breath.
