A few pics of an "R" reg Mondeo rear suspension. Not taken during an MOT...... but as it was brought into us for repair. The customer had only bought it a couple of weeks previously without having a pre purchase inspection. Length left on MOT not known at the moment. Thankfully the suspension collapsed at a reasonably slow speed. General view of the N/S/R with the wheel off. Upper circle, a very long child seat fixing bolt. Lower circle, where the bolt rubbed a groove into the trailing arm. Trailing arm badly bent and snapped into two. Closeup. In the circle the trailing arm had been welded together sometime in the past !!!!!!!!!! Transverse lower link arm had also snapped where it joins to the hub carrier.

Is this another one of those pass / pass & advise / fail conundrums?
I'll go with fail this time - No wheel fitted to nearside rear!

I'd fail it.... the wording on repairs in the manual (Appendix C, Section 12) is "Welded repairs to highly stressed componants such as steering/suspension arms, rods, levers, etc are not normally acceptable"
