Plain Paper certificates should be going live on the 16th of October, apparently!

don't forget at least five sheets of paper in bottom tray and leave VTS device and printer switched on and online.

My experience has already shown that when printing items like the report test log, the number of pages printed is double, and I think the reason for this is to allow time for the paper to cool down.
I think the system has gone from one extreme to the other?

I'd guess that if Siemens are sending the firmware down the line this weekend then every test station has had their printers installed. If that's the case I can see the start date for plain paper certificates being brought forward.
I've already been looking around for replacement cartridges. The cheapest I've found so far for the 8000 sheet capacity is £90.59 + VAT delivered from a local office supply company. If anyone finds them cheaper please post in here for all of us to benefit.

When buying replacement toner for the printer be mindful that there is a chip built into the toner, if the chip is not standard then the toner when fitted will not work? Check with supplier before you buy. Dave

hi all, did anyone else have a problem monday morning with their printer after the sunday software update. i had to reset mine three times by pulling the plug on it before it would print a VT40. i think i must have a duff one as this is the fourth time it's gone wrong. time to call ATOS i think.

Ours was OK but I did switch off and reboot the VTS before startup. Having said that ours does seem to have odd days where it groans along as if its on its last legs.

If anyone finds them cheaper please post in here for all of us to benefit. According to SN6 the VOSA price is £92.20+vat inc delivery so for the sake of £1.61 may be best to stick with theirs, there can be no come back then. Perhaps you could bring up the price at the next council meeting. Considering the volume they could sell they should be the cheapest. After all we now have to provide the "ink" and paper.

As we had no choice in the make/model of the printer the question I'll ask is why Siemens/ATOS, or whoever they call themselves by then, will be profiteering from a captive market? 3rd party suppliers have to make a profit therefore cost is lower. As we were able to get the old ribbons for free from Siemens - even though they never actually told us - I think we should get the new cartridges at least at cost price.
Just think of their cost savings with no paper, printing, packaging and delivery from next month. We're still paying the same slot prices so who gets those savings? It's a question already asked at the VTS council meetings - hopefully we'll get an answer soon.

Another thought crossed my mind. Now that all test stations have had their printers delivered there are around 20,000 more of these Epson printers in use.
Has anyone ensured that there are and will be sufficient stocks of cartridges? If someone has then fine and dandy, but if not what will happen if there is a shortage and there are hundreds of test stations unable to print off documents? As admin posted earlier, these don't start to show when getting close to empty - they just stop. They are not listed as yet on the VTS device order page (the old ones still are though!) so we can't order from there yet.
I've sent an email asking VOSA the question - I'll post when I get an answer.

VOSA have put a phone number in latest sn. to buy cartridge direct from epson. £92.50 + VAT, and they also said if you use non genuine toners, then the warranty on the printer is invalid.

I would have to read the special notice again, and I don't wish to contradict what you say, but I am sure they would say "Could" be void? Dave

I too think its a disgrace that we now have to pay or toner and now also all paper supplies. Wouldnt be soo bad if a reduction in test slot cost was sorted, but thats not likely to ever happen.
