Hi,
I have a old Daihatsu Charade GTti that has been off the road since 1996 and i am currently sorting it all out.
The fuel tank is rusty and fuel line is corroded a bit too much for my liking.
Due to the cost and avalablility of a genuine tank from Daihatsu, my plan is to fit a alloy fuel tank inside the car, and run braided hose from the tank, then under the car to the fuel pump, and braided all the way to underbonnet. Also a braided return line back to tank.
OK for MOT?
My understanding is that as long as it is all properly secured and no leaks it does not have to be metal pipe like OEM
Many thanks,
Nathan

Hi Munnsey, welcome to the forum.
Yes so long as the fuel components are secured and don't leak you should be OK. However, if you manufacturer a new tank the fuel cap must still fit by a positive means and maintain a good sealing arrangement, i.e. positive fit

Thats great news thanks! Was told by someone at the local Ford garage that it needs to be metal pipe and not fuel hose...I was 95% sure he was talking rubbish but kept my thoughts to myself!
Then he said i could cut out affected rusty section of metal pipe and replace with short section of hose.. No thanks i thought, Woudl rather have a single length of high pressure hose with no joins from fuel pump to engine.
