Hi all, I need to book my American Ford F350 in for an MOT, Its a crew cab pick up, GVW 3945kg, used non commercialy, 22foot long, test class on old MOT cert is class IV. Do I have to take it to a goods vehicle testing station or can I take it anywhere with a big enough ramp?

Thanks for the reply scoot, but I'm none the wiser, I understand that most 4 post lifts won't be any use, but I would imagine any where with a decent length pit could cope, providing there's enough room to use the rolling road. but if I found somewhere suitable COULD I take it there or have I GOT to take it to a GVTS due to the GVW??, bearing in mind the last owner had it done as a classIV

jase, most class 4 mot stations can only test up to 2999kg GVW, if they have a big enough ramp/pit they can test larger vehicles in class 4 as long as said vehicle dose not have any space for transporting goods, i.e if a double decker bus is converted in to a camper (with no space for transporting goods) it's class 4. a ford f350 is a pickup so it has a space for transporting goods and its over 2999kg so it's class 7. I think the people that have tested it before should not have (there may be some exemption to this rule on dual purpose vehicles though I'm not sure, I couldn't get an answer about a landrover duelcab pickup that was 3250kg GVW from VOSA ) I'm a class 4 tester and I would not test it, best I can say is take it to a class 7 test station

I would and have tested as duel purpose vehicle as long as it as a crew cab. you have no upper weight limit for a duel purpose vehicle just your lift limit of your ramp i am lucky to have a ramp that will lift them

Dual purpose vehicles do have an upper weight limit of 2040kg, unladen.
Over that figure then they are outside of Class IV.

OK my mistake how many points for testing out of class Until recently VOSA didn't have a clue when an NT had carried out a test using the wrong class of vehicle, so if I were you I would say nothing and don't make that mistake again Dave
