ahh - sorry people but class five is for 13 or more pasenger seats not 8 and 1mm is for class five and not 4 or 7 in any case - hope this helps.
************************************************* Added by Admin: 1.0mm tread does apply to some Class 4 vehicles - those with 8 or more passenger seats - and those first used before 3rd January 1933 *************************************************

A 1.0mm minimum tread depth applies to · A passenger-carrying vehicle with more than 8 passenger seats excluding the driver’s seat. A vehicle first used before 3 January 1933.
As Class 4 can be up to 12 passenger seats surely the 1mm can apply to class 4 vehicles?

Graham is correct and this is a copy from the manual "A 1.6mm minimum tread depth applies to A vehicle first used after 2 January 1933 that is either a. a passenger carrying vehicle (car, motor caravan etc) with not more than 8 passenger seats, excluding the driver’s, or b. a goods vehicle or dual purpose vehicle not exceeding 3500kg maximum gross weight " and "A 1.0mm minimum tread depth applies to · A passenger-carrying vehicle with more than 8 passenger seats excluding the driver’s seat. · A vehicle first used before 3 January 1933." I understand grahams correction but 1.00m tread has never applied to class 7 see for your self - www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s04000106.htmPlease bear in mind that even though your vehicle may be class 7 - to quailify for class 7 it needs to be a good vehicle - load carrying and not a passenger vehicle. It is very easy to get caught on the tyres issue - the original question is "1mm tread is applicable to the all range of goods vehicles vans etc" by bas NT. If any one wants to check out the manual on tyres heres the class four section " www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s04000001.htm" and the class 5 " www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m5s04000001.htmcheers
