i have recently broken my drivers side inner door handle and i have now removed the door handle as it is pass repair however you are still able to open the door from the inside by pulling the cable. all of the doors latches, locks and outer door handle all work fine. i was just wondering if the car will still pass its MOT?
cheers

Take care
From the manual 6.2 1b
"a driver’s or front passenger’s door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case."
I would suggest if you can open it via the cable with your hand then pass and advise but if you needed a pair of pliers (you found on the floor) then I would fail it.

I had this very question (not on a Clio though) explained to me by our VE. It might not be you who needs to open the door from the inside, it might be a member of the emergency services or a bystander who might have to get you out in a hurry. If the relevant control is missing they could struggle to open the door. He said fail it every time.

I beleive that if this door handle is missing and no obvious handle present then I agree to fail - if you car is burning and your unconcious - basting away like a turkey - and a fire man broke the outside handle would you like to now teach him the "knack" of opening the door? This is why we fail. SAFETY. the reasons for rejection are there for our safety in an emergency - you might be the best driver in the world but I bet the other driver who hit you isn't - food for thought

My answer was primarily aimed at the OP and Scoot who believed it was not a fail item at all and I advised caution over passing with a broken handle.
In reality, 99 times out of 100 if the handle is missing it is impossible to pull the control cable without pliers (too stiff) and therefore as I said its a fail. If the door could be easily opened with hand pressure on the cable then a P&A could be an option. The cable is part of the manufacturers door latch control mechanism and the manual states
"a driver’s or front passenger’s door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case."
Knowing how pedantic Vosa can be....................

i agree with graham - vosa can be pedantic and would advise anyone passing a vehicle aith a defect - if its within the scope of the MOT - most of it is - then advise it - better have 5 points for an incorrect than a 25 point for a so called missed item...
