SN 8-2007 informs us that the VT20 will no longer show a bar-code or authentication number! Surely this will make it easier for people to produce fraudulent certificates ?
And in the box where the bar-code was, we will have information to let the vehicle presenter know when to bring their vehicle back in for its next MOT test - perhaps getting ready for 4-2-2...

Havent got that yet ? and cant find it on the VOSA website ? also the link dont work ? The SN is available on your VTS device (press F5). Special notice -- All classes -- SN 8-2007 June (should be September!) Admittedly, VOSA are a little slow in putting it on their own website. Once it is available on their website, the link on this forum's home page will work... www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/publications/specialnotices/specialnotices.htm

To me it looks like its so easy now to make a dodgy mot all they need is a blank VT20 and a computer! wheres the security? Bar code was better than nothing What the big idea why change something that was doing ok for know instead they should be looking at other problems like looking up when mot is due without printing out duplicate

Number plate recognition with speed cameras and police cars able to stop motorists within a short time because of the now massive Data base for insurance, mot, driving licence and road fund, any fraudulent or missing item will soon be shown up and delt with. I assume the post offices that are left shortly will not need the bar code when if the vehicle is retaxed. Or is it going to be only "road fund licence issued on line" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All. Re the special notice SN 8-2007, this seems to have been very hurriedly put on the system, have you noticed that there is no reference to the SN in our message inboxes and therefor we have had to acknowledge it yet, we have also had the sporadic X's appearing occasionally in the signature box, quite agree with other contributors about the removal of the barcode and unique number from the VT20, very stupid and removes what little security the certificate appeared to have. Putting the earliest date the vehicle could be tested the next year and preserve its expiry date is also a bit daft, it allready tells you that on the back of the VT 20 albeit without the specific date, a quick calculation gives you the same answer. Had a machine generated voice phonecall today from VOSA asking us to leave our device switched on overnight, we do anyway but tomorrow could be interesting following tonights download!!. Like some else has said on this topic "Siemens leave it alone, if it aint busted dont fix it" or is more accurate to say "Siemens keep fixing it until it is busted "
Catch you all tomorrow, regards Henry.
