What I have done when this has occured is Abandon the test: 'Incorrect vehicle details entered'
Then I re-register the test, entering the FULL VIN. The system will give the 3 chances to confirm it is correct. The vehicle can then be tested.
If you have already tested the vehicle, and issued a certificate, you need to contact your VOSA local office a.s.a.p. As far as I am aware, someone there has the authority to request a modification to the database. They will then reply to you and you can issue a duplicate certificate (which should now show the correct details) from your VTS device to give to the vehicle presenter. The document with incorrect details must be destroyed.
DO NOT test the vehicle again with the correct VIN & reg.

Hi Ian. It's not really our problem (errors on the dvla database) If it occurs again I suggest you abandon or abort the test with the reason " incorrect details entered". Then restart login on the same vehicle, this time enter the full chassis number as read FROM THE VEHICLE, the system will probably reject it as a mismatch, you then force the sytem to accept your details by entering the data yourself as requested (useful to insist that presenters provide the reg document as you will need the exact date of first use, this is the the only information we are allowed to copy from the reg document). You then conduct your test, assuming it passes, the certificate will have the details correct as read from the vehicle, the registered owner should a few days later get a letter from DVLA asking why the details are different to those in thier database, the presenter writes back politlely telling dvla to get thier ops eyes tested. This has already happened to me a few times, it is usually an extra digit/letter (easily recognised in the reg document as a 18 digit chassis no, which is incorrect) when we log in the last six digits correctly from the vehicle, the system dosn't recognise it and throws a wobbly.
Hope that helps. Henry, AE and NT.

Just found the details in a Special Notice: www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publications/special%20notice%2005-05.pdfRelevant extract: Item 3 MOT Computerisation – VRM/VIN Mismatches If you find you have registered a test result against an incorrect VRM and/or VIN, you must contact your local Area Office. The Area Office will be able to issue a corrected replacement. Do not register the vehicle for a subsequent test with the correct details, this will result in you using an additional test slot as well as leaving an incorrect record on the database.
