I taxed my car online today - saves queueing at the post office! However, the system asked for a 16 digit reference number on the V11 (renewal form). There was no such number on mine I managed to click some links and use the V5 document reference number instead. Just got to wait up to 5 days for the tax disc to be delivered now... Can I use the 'Tax In Post' excuse on my windscreen if the disc doesn't arrive by 1st November ? ;D

Graham <Added> The only bit I could find quickly was at www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/gen_info.htm"Vehicles that are used or kept on a public road in the United Kingdom are required, by law, to display a valid vehicle licence (tax disc). Did you know that you could offer to purchase your customers tax online for them once you have done their MOT, you just need there V5 and insurance details as you will already have the MOT certificate number. Charge them a tenner or something like that for administration. The tax disc would be sent to the registered owners address. Dave

Update: Tax disc received Friday 28th. I'm impressed. No more queuing at the Post Office for me from now on
