Hi Tom After looking at these pictures a would have passed and advised. Until I went to the link at 'car mechanics' and there are more pictures added to the end and after seeing them its a definite FAIL!
ADMIN: The link to the BBA forum is faulty. There shouldn't be a space in the last group of numbers in the link.
[Admin reply: A TinyURL link has now been included. Thank you]

Here is a picture of the disc on the other side of the vehicle that had been added to the 'Car Mechanics' discussion forum later in the thread.

Looking at the photos, I would 'Pass & Advise'.
There is excessive pitting present on the disc and some scoring, but the disc is not excessively pitted or excessively scored. The area at the outer edge of the disc, and the inner edge amounts to around one third of the width of the brake pad contact area.
The MOT inspection manual is not very helpful in situations like this, and it relies on the decision of the tester. The tester is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
When I voted in this poll, 6 people had voted and the result was 50 / 50.

These are my discs, a short moving of the car with the handbrake on has given the result below. I've taken to the pic below to the MOT tester and he said he'd take a look again, are the chances of a pass now much better?

Of course the tester will have to check all the visible surfaces of all discs before he gives you his verdict.

Another disc pic for you. We failed this Citroen this week on N/S/R brake not working. On taking off the wheel this is what we found. The "disc" trapped between the pads in the caliper. The disc center attatched to the hub. The black ring is a nice 4mm gap between the two.... Graham

Showed the tester Still a fail apparently, though they have improved a little more since the most recent picture above . He's still failing them on being exessively pitted then saying that the inside i.e what he can see between the vents is really bad which I didn't think was part of the test.

Like a record or a coin, a brake disc has TWO sides. Your tester is saying that the reverse side of the disc is what he is failing.
Are you able to photograph that ?
