I have found a discussion about an import - a Toyota Soarer (nope, I have never seen one either!) The vehicle's ABS warning system is a peculiarity. Testers are failing it because the warning light does not illuminate. The vehicle owners think it should pass... What do you reckon ? The discussion can be found at these links: Toyota Imports ForumLexus Owners Club

Well back from the well earned break,Tom in reply to testing the Soarer with the scroll testing ABS system it is in my veiw a fail as the testing proceedure states. However as the design of the system lets you know when a fault is present be it in Jap don't like that bit, I think VOSA should put out a special notice forthwith to confirm the working scoll system to all as a PASS. Just a second thought. First a call to the SVA testing VOSA boys as they would have to have passed this in the first instant i would have thought being a Jap import!

To-day been it touch with sva chappie, He had not come across a Soarer but checked on his SVA manual for the model car on importation to European Uk country. States that it has to be modified to the abs warning system to comply with the test hummmmm. Given me a number to the HQ SVA technical chap, will proceed with this to-morrow unless anyone here knows what is going on here?

Cripes been in touch with the tec SVA VOSA guy he states it does not have to the UK warning light systems. If the ecu passes all the scrolled checks [in jap writings] it is ok to pass. If on your travel it comes up in Jap as a malfunction and no one can understand it it still ok. Don't like that.

But does it comply with the test procedures that we must abide by in The Testers Manual ?
Method of Inspection:
If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that
a. a warning lamp is fitted b. the lamp illuminates c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation d. does not indicate a fault.
Note: The sequence varies with the type of system. Refer to the manufacturers or other reliable data, eg purpose produced charts, books, etc.
Reason for Rejection: 1. The warning lamp a. is missing b. does not illuminate c. does not follow the correct sequence of operation d. indicates an ABS fault.
