Care with mondeo brake pipes just over the fuel tank.
They can look great before the tank and after it, but just above (bit difficult to see) they can be really bad.

I remembered your post when testing one yesterday, sure enough, totally corroded brake pipes. Someone should tell main dealers, this Mondeo had just had a major service at Fords, the customer was pretty upset.

Usually rotten up the side of the tank not far from the fuel filter. If you look where they're clipped to body you'll see.
Fiats are some of the worst, coated with that grey paint stuff. If it's starting to bubble beware! Scrape it of you get a white powdery stuff and you think it's not too bad - go do RBT and don't be surprized if pedal go's to floor. Puntos - tempo's bravas etc just above rear axle.
Brake pipes very difficult to judge as different manufactors seem to have different qualities of piping. I remember failing a subaru rear pipe one day whilst VOSA man was watching me do a routine check. He claimed I made wrong decission and the brake pipe was pass & advise. Was only a small bit where it was clipped to body. After he'd gone we decided to replace it anyway and what happened the minute we took it out the clip? Started leaking ;D when your replacing them steady you get to know but thats just VOSA for you.

I had a 2000 astra auto in on Thursday. I noticed one pipe was rusty just at a clip on the bodywork. This pipe runs accross the body, from a valve on the nearside to the flexie on the offside. It did not look like even a pass & advise.
Onto the rolling road & the pedal went to the floor...... Back up on the ramp & found that the pipe was burst right at the clip

Similar story with a 1999 Renault Megane at our VTS last week. Doing the under-vehicle checks, found brake fluid leaking from behind the fuel tank.
Did the repairs later & found a coated brake pipe that was in near perfect condition along its length, except for one area that had a pinhole. The pinhole was wrapped in a factory fitted 4-inch length of protective sleeving - to protect the pipe from chafing behind the fuel tank no doubt!
The pipe section should still be at the VTS. Will try to put a picture up tomorrow...

As far as im aware if you fail a car on brake pipes and get it wrong, you get less points than if you pass/advise and get it wrong.
