Following a visit from vosa our risk score has dropped to 310 but are now amber....................A bit confusing as we had only 2 minor advice points. Anyone explain how it works. It was a site assessment with also a quick check of me of which ten questions asked and ten correct answers. The AE had a few questions too which I thought he responded to well............... ??

A risk score of 310 would surgest a green segment. On the previous site assessment your testing station will have been scored and placed into a segment. At that time the risk allocated comes with planned activities.ie mystery shoppers and unannounced vosa visits. The test station may remain in the amber until those planned activities have been completed. It only means that the test stations due assessment has been done before the old assessment had run out.So it maybe that vosa still have unfinished business or something that you are unaware of and more to do with your AE or an admin issue. After the VE has completed the assessment he feeds the results into computerisation which in the end spits out the score. It maybe that the change in segment has not caught up yet with the score.Colour segments can change on the vts device without you knowing unless you. Check for it on the device. But bear in mind that vosa can change the segment thresholds which may be down to the test stations improving their own risk scores. Not saying iam correct in writing the above but going by past experience this is what I know unless some one knows better.

In addition to what nitros says, because risk scores are all plotted on a graph, if more and more garages score in the green, then you need a better score to achieve green status than in the past, so we all have to paddle harder to stay still, if you see what I mean.

I see flaws in this system in my opinion . I am by no way implying this, but in an imperfect system of things I think that if each month a tester looks at his PR Report and sees that his/her figures are higher than the scheme average by a reasonable amount, this means to cause you to look at your report and ask yourself the question; how are other NTs getting these low figures each month? Then from my understanding this puts a personal pressure on the individual NT to get his/her figures lower to achieve the same level of expectations, which IF this occurs then the reports are flawed in my opinion. Not putting ideas into NTs minds here, but suppose, just supposing that an NT was analyzing the report each month and said the average number of tests I do is X, then the average number of vehicles I fail on each item(s) that appear to be high are X, How would I reduce those numbers? Well, quite easy really, just by keeping an eye on how many vehicles go through the bay with items that should fail, like a bulb say, then that gets put right and not entered into the VTS device, therefore the scheme average looks reasonable for the NTs doing that, if that happens, but then the genuine NTs who do get artificial high figures and then the finger is pointed at them because VOSA look at the report and say, that NT is doing something wrong, which they are probably not? Please understand I am not saying this happens, but saying it could happen somewhere that we don't know about, but if so would reflect on the reports. VOSA came to our place recently and said to me that your lighting and signalling figures are higher than normal, therefore I am required to ask you to demonstrate a headlamp aim test please? Headlamp aim test? Assumptions here, suppose that other problems existed? The conclusion was that my ability to use the equipment and demonstrate each part of the test required ended up with in the VEs view, as he said perfect, but the report figures are saying something else, so what does it all mean?
