How does the MOT stand with cars running stretched tyres? I have encountered situations where running stretched sidewalls of tyres onto wide wheels have passed MOT , and I assumed deemed safe , only then for the same car to be stopped by police and deemed unsafe by them in using such style wheel/tyre combination.
what is allowed /what is not?? is it a discretionary ? may I have some clarification re this from testers in the know?

Police & MOT test stations follow different rules for many items. The MOT test is the bare minimum to show the vehicle is 'safe' at the time of the test. The police can enforce construction & use regulations... The MOT for tyres: www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s04000106.htmThe only possible failure would be: 4.1.D.1.d. "Incorrect seating in the wheel rim" - but that would be open to debate...

thanks for the reply, this mot reference i had read prior.
A tyre that is not damaged from cuts buldges and fitted with correct rotation and holds pressure and inflated on a vehicle with the tyre sitting over the rim beaded sections should be MOT regal b it with vertical sidewalls or a stretched sidewall I am then asuming.
Do any MOT testers generally pass and advise or for any reason fail such a thing?

Hi,
' A Class 3 or 4 vehicle tyre which appears to be of inadequate size, ply or speed rating for the vehicle or its use is not a reason for rejection. However, the vehicle presenter should be informed.'
