Hi. I am a new member of the forum & have a question regarding rumoured tightening-up of MOT exhaust emissions for newer diesel cars.
Basically the diesel particulate filter on my December 2007 "57" plate Seat Leon FR keeps blocking. In order to make the car more reliable I am therefore considering having the DPF removed & the ECU data logged & remapped to stop it trying to regenerate a filter that wouldn't be there (yes, I have discussed this with my insurers!).
However, I have just heard that a change to the diesel exhaust emissions regs MAY be imminent, that would mean MOT failure for diesel cars that have had their DPF removed from the exhaust system.
Has anyone got any further information on proposed or definite changes to MOT emissions regulations for newer diesels please & if so, will it definitely only affect cars first registered on or after 1st January 2008?
Thanks in anticipation!

the new limit for diesel reg after 1 st july 2008 which came this july 01st is 1.5 m2 for turbo diesel and smoke meters should be updated in their software by now so if yours is 57 plate the old limit of 3.0 m2 applies hope this of help to you

Thank you very much indeed, that's good to know and a big relief! Presumably the guy that said he thought new, stricter emissions regs were imminent was in fact talking about the regs that came into effect on 1st July 2011 i.e. he was unaware they'd actually recently come into effect. I can now proceed with having the troublesome DPF removed without worrying that the car would then fail an MOT. Phew! Thanks again, greatly appreciated.

When VOSA had the equipment manufacturers update their software for the emissions change of limits, it would have been nice if somebody in VOSA had of had the experience to go wth updating the software to ensure that when those new very low limits hae been met, and the computer printout is not forthcoming, that somebody would have had the idea to allow the software program to either print the emissions printout or allow a record to be kept ia the emissions analyser? Good job VOSA are up to speed on the changes then ;D Dave
