I'm surprised that nobody's made any comment yet. From 1st August the contact number for Siemens service desk changes to 090 5050 0045. All calls will be charged at 50p/minute. If you call the old number they will not help you and they will tell you to dial the premium rate number (perhaps to speak to the same person). The only exception will be registering or entering results on fallback testing which will still use a local rate number.
Just think if/when the system goes down again. Everybody listening to the message and getting the incident number will add up to quite a few minutes.
10 minutes hanging on will cost a fiver (and I bet the intro message will be longer)

Yep..Read that today. What a total rip off scam. So if there are problems that have nothing to do with the garage its us who are paying for advice..................

And more than 90% of calls are probably not the garage's fault

The proposals in the consultation document earlier this year included replacing the Local Rate service desk number with a National Rate one.
A Premium Rate Service is different.
For each 50p, Siemens are earning a minimum of 30p. The remainder going to the line operator (BT).

I have emailed VOSA about this
Dear Mr xxxxxxx
I refer to my response to one of the points raised in the "Changes to the MOT Scheme" see below.
As far as I know "Change service desk number to a national number" should be to a normal land line number but it seems it is going to be replaced with 090 5050 0045 which is not a National Number but a Premium Rate number. Something entirely different.
Could you please explain why the change has occurred. The 090 5050 0045 will have a cost of 50p/minute, no doubt a large proportion of this will be earning Siemens/VOSA additional revenue at the garages expense
>Item 5 - Change service desk number to a national number >Again another pass of Siemens costs onto us.
Suggest others do the same. I will post when I receive a reply.

I had another thought and I've emailed VOSA asking the question.
Any changes like this should (have to?) be notified via special notices and not a message on the VTS device. I wonder what the response will be.

Ok, looks as if there has been a change of mind I can confirm that the service desk will be a national rate number and not a premium number. A system message will be sent to all users to confirm this in due course. Thank you for bring this to my attention.I have suggested it is also added to the next SN.

Message on the VTS this morning, the old number will be still operational for the next week.

Still waiting for a reply to mine but it looks to me like Siemens took a decision to change the numbers without letting VOSA know about it. tut tut I wonder what the message at the end of the week will be. Edit Having now had replies, the number will indeed change next week but to a national number as previously thought. The incorrect message sent out was due to an "error" I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when that particular error hit the fan
