Your MOT history and validity can be checked on this link www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10020539The CV gaiters are just rubber covers over the drive shaft joints. The rubber can and does deteriorate causing cracks to appear in the rubber. These cracks can sometimes look quite bad but can be OK for a long while, on the other hand if they eventually get really bad they will crack right through the rubber and cause a split. A split would fail a test as this would let the grease out of the joint and dirt into the joint, but slight deterioration of the rubber would not fail. Ask your local garage to have a quick look and to give you a price to replace them, it should not cost a vast amount if they are required. Wally

i could be wrong but the way i read it is that it failed on the gators and issued a fail certificate, it was then repaired and issued a pass certificate and they were both given to presenter, and this time round it passed because the gators had already been done.get it checked as said before but i think you will find they have been done. i always give my presenters all the paperwork as it gives a record of work done on the vehicle.

Was it a red failure or a yellow advisory? Cracking rubber on CV gaitors is not a fail.

I don't wish to step on anyones toes here, but maybe the Testers Manual should be consulted a little more often than experience is showing at the present. Section (2.5C. 1d) A drive shaft flexible rubber or fabric coupling unit severely cracked or breaking up. Obviously if the gaiter is as described above then a Tester has the right to issue a fail notice if one is warranted. The gaiter does not have to be split to fail, there are other reasons for rejections. Dave
