Hi all, Am hoping an expert can scan an eye over this MOT history (from DirectGov) and let me know what they think. As I understand from an email from the seller, he bought the car a year ago with no service history (alarm bells ringing), with the understanding the previous owner had gone abroad and left the car sitting there for a good while (hence the low mileage). I got the reg and details for a history check and it showed this: Just seems strange the previous owner had changed the reg, then there is nothing until the recent MOT (where it was changed back to the original plate). Should it be marked as SORN at all here? Or is there a possible scam where he changed the reg, racked up the miles and then switched it back? The current mileage of the car is around 50,000. I was planning on tracing it's history through BMW if possible, but from this MOT check should I just avoid like the plague? Thank you for any replies

Hi Good to be cautious but changing to a cherished reg keeps the details seperate, so only gives the history to the plate on the car at that time. Not many miles racked up in the missing 3 years but this grey area still needs to be cleared up, try getting the log book number issued to the private plate and then duplicate mot certificates. May also be able to get history using the chassis number . Definately would not avoid because with a bit of detective work may end up with a classic low mileage bm.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately the car had sold when I made the call, so yeah maybe it was legit (at least I hope so for the buyer).
Thanks for your help
