Hi chaps-what would you do in this situation?you fail a discovery for the common fault of rear seat belt anchorages (floorpan corrosion) but notice inside the boot floor, the customer has attatched a massive (full floorpan sized) aluminium plate(by self tappers)! the station concerned faile it on excess corrosion (fromunderneath) and inedaquite repair (from the top) the guy wants to weld the floor but leave the aluminium plate in? can you treat the ali plate as a (very large) washer for the anchorage bolt heads? or has it got to be removed to demonstrate the correct weld etc?? i know my opinion but htought i would ask tia yanno

Personally, there is no way I'd consider that as an oversized washer.
With that in mind, the ally plate probably wont be as strong as the original steel. Sounds awkward for the customer, but to cover myself, I'd ask for it to be removed and repaired to the original spec.

It's not an MOT testers job to assess changes to a vehicles design, that is the purpose of an SVA inspector. If someone wishes to change the design or construction then they should present it for an SVA test.
