Hi I am about to take my NTTA exam next week and have just looked at the above link for the questions...Very helpfull I am stuck on only 1 question ? 2. Which one of the following foot brake efficiency ranges should a properly maintained modern four wheeled car be expected to achieve in an EMERGENCY BRAKING situation on a dry tarmac road ? A = 100% to 105% B = 80% to 85% C = 50% to 55% D = 25% to 30% 3. I have got the book Hillier's Fundamentals of Motor Vehicle Technology 4th ed But i cant find any reference to brake efficiency? I have asked both our mechanics at work and both give different answers?.. One say's answer A the other says C answer C is the legal limit for overall brake efficiency for passing the MOT?.. Can any one give me the right answer? or another Book that has more info Thanks

Thanks for that tyreman
I thought i had all the correct answers.. but just read on another topic that i might have got the wrong answers..
31. Which types of tyre construction have the most flexible side walls ? A = cross ply B = bias belted C = radial D = cross ply remoulds
I think A = cross ply
14. Steering self centring (or self righting) is mainly produced by ? A = king pin inclination B = toe in or toe out C = camber D = castor
I think A = king pin inclination
Anyone have the correct answers?
Thanks

Thanks Don,t now the answer to the tyres but the self center of the steering wheel is answer D = caster I was told to think of a shopping trolley. But if I had to guess the tyre I would go for C= radial

hi there i live in Northampton and work in Leicester, i have failed my ntta test once and have my second test on the 11th March, i really want to pass this time, my only area that i failed in was emissions. I have been in the trade for 30 years and have owned my own garage for most of that, I currently work at an MOT test station and have several friends who are qualified and no-one seems to know the answers to the question on emissions IE ppm of lead in diesel and unleaded, if an engine was misfiring how does it affect the ppm of hydrocarbons, i would appreciated any help you could give me and thank you in advance for you time, cheers Paul

if an engine was misfiring how does it affect the ppm of hydrocarbons Hydrocabons is the measurement of unburnt fuel, the better a petrol engine works the less hydrocarbons it produces. If an engine has a misfire then unburnt fuel will be released with the exhaust gases making the HC level higher.
