Whats happened is the metal clip has given up and become weak/corroded and unable to keep the gaiter fixed to cv joint.A new clip is all it will need hopefully and take 5 mins to fix. Is this all it failed on katiee

Might want to pack some more grease in the joint before securing the gaiter back on as it could have lost a lot depending on how long it has been unsecured

I have just replaced my CV boots, but try as hard as i could, I just could not get the clips on, so i have used jubilee clips, how ever i have just been informed, this was a mistake, i should not use them as it upsets the balance on drive shaft. Any advice please.

Any advice please. Balancing of various masses rotating in the same planeI will assume then that the "Expert" who advised you that fitting your jubilee clips has carried out with his expert experience the amount of resultant unbalanced forces acting through your drive shafts with these new clips fitted? Given the equation; ob x w^2 = {(2 x 3.142) x number of revolutions/min}squared / 60 = unbalanced forces {kg m / s squared} So long as the jubilee clip is not fouling anything and causing damage, which I know it won't be, then you will be OK with them fitted. i would pass and advise a clip missing on small end to drive shaft if the gaiter is not split its not going to effect brakes or steering is it if its not attached to housing i would fail it or is split

That might be so, but Hayden was actually referring to me ;D OCPD - D = Dave ;D Sorry Hayden I only noticed after posting that I actually created another equation ;D Take note; OCPD - D = D A V E Where; O = E, C = V, P = A, and D = D Subtracting D from LHS = RHS "D" I am a genius LOL ;D

Genius is not boaderline madness lol, it is me with an exceptional abilty in a subject that other persons have not attained, and most certainly not drivel as you say, because people like me with the exceptional abilities create the products in socienty that people take for granted, and if real geniuses like me were not an existance then you could still be living in caves lol ;D ;D

Hi Guys you lot make me laugh ;D Anyways.... My sisters car just failed its MOT, I was not happy with the testing station as they failed it for stuff that I saw with my own eyes working as she left there (number plate light) but also the guy who owns the VTS owns a separate Workshop that he was trying to get her to take the car to and didn't give her the option to take the car away, he kept the Fail sheet to quote her for the work..ermm no let the customer decide what they want to do! Anyways... ;D One thing they failed on was (this is off the sheet) Offside front Front constant velocity joint is insecure. Manual code [2.5.C.1b] Now..me reading that says 'the C.V JOINT is insecure' but that's not the boot or the gaiter OR is this VOSA trying to confuse me AGAIN I know I don't know much about cars (they have four wheels, two too many for me) soooo HELP ;D Sam

No its not VOSA trying it on, it is either a genuine fail with reference to; a drive shaft constant velocity joint excessively worn or insecure, or the NT has genuinely clicked the wrong reason for rejection IF the CV gaitor is insecurely mounted to its housing, which is easy to check. Dave
