Wrong place to post this but it's late.
I had a 23 year old Datsun in for test today. The hooter was only secured by the two wires that supllied it. Could I find a RFR, could I heck.
Please tell me I am wrong! I sent a message to my VE, Area office & the helpdesk about it. The Seimens help desk rang me back ten minutes later. (obviously not bust enough). They said that they couldn'd see a RFR either.
Pass & advise is what I did. I could have removed the hooter & failed it for not working, but thats not cricket is it?
Any thoughts?
Cheers All

I sent a message via the VT device & got the following response
"VOSA enquiry unit Swansea. Section 1.7 of the MOT inspection manual, (Car & light commercial vehicle testing), refers to audible warning (horn). RFR 1,a refers to the horn control missing, insecure, or not readily accessible to the driver. Note inform the driver that the horn is insecure, if this RFR doesn't apply as it is talking about the actual horn control itself, then all you could do is issue an advisory on this item & not pass & advise it."
It all made sense until the last bit. Isn't issuing an advisory the same as passing & advising?
Cheers all

A pass and advise is to advise on a component you are allowed to fail ie brake pads but that aren't too bad. If you noticed the spare wheel on 1.6mm (or less) you could not fail therefore could not P&A under either measurement, so its a simple advise to let the customet know its condition. Graham
